It has taken until 2010...

...for the first World Cup to take place on the continent of Africa but also for the two religious communities in Armagh to come together in partnership to further reconciliation and peace-building.

So close in physical proximity yet so far apart in mutual reciprocity.  Until 2010 that is, and the coming together of faith leaders from both communities in Armagh.  At the launch of the event on 9th March, which was covered by BBC Radio Ulster's Sunday Sequence, the 'pilgrims' made the trek from one cathedral to the other.  Some of the Armagh natives had never been in the cathedral of the other community.  Does this surprise us?

Through our Activity 4 strand, that works on the premise of building sustainable positive relations within and between communities, we have engaged with leaders in society – whether they be individuals or groups - who are in a position to work alongside others in their communities to make a positive impact on reconciliation work at a wider level.

The Armagh Cathedrals Partnership is an excellent showcase for the positive outcome that can be achieved through deeper dialogue, co-operation and mutual understanding between both sides of the community.  The brochure highlights the commitment and common vision of both communities and it is hoped that this commitment to reconciliation and the cooperative approach between the leaders of both religious communities has a ripple effect within the respective communities.
